Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett players and coaches pose with their MHSAA Region 28 boys tennis championship trophy on Wednesday.

   Division 4 No. 2-ranked Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett won the Michigan High School Athletic Association Region 28 boys tennis championship on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Liggett’s tennis complex.

      Liggett won the title with a perfect 32 points. Marine City was the only other state qualifier, finishing second with 19 points.

   The Knights sweep all eight flights.

 

   Sebastian Courtright (No. 1), George Anusbigian (No. 2), Gerry Sherer (No. 3), and Charlie Cooksey (No. 4) won singles championships.

   The teams of Jacob Tomlinson and Tommy Ugval (No. 1), Bennett French and Campbell Marchal (No. 2), Steve Wheatley and Brendan Connors (No. 3), and Bode Neumeister and Neil Murphy (No. 4) won doubles championships.

   The MHSAA Division 4 championship is scheduled for Friday-Saturday, Oct. 15-16, in the Ann Arbor area.
